Brecon Beacons Adventure

Monday Cubs (and some extra Cubs from Tuesdays and one scout) had fun this Easter in the Brecon Beacons.

The weekend started at the end of term with the 17 young scouts and 7 Leaders travelling to Brecon by minibus on the Friday night. We arrived at the hall where we were staying about 8.30 and quickly settled in. All the Cubs went for a walk through the town to find the Cathedral although the park we hoped to find was a bit steeper than we imagined!

Plenty of hot dogs and hot chocolate finished of the evening and the Cubs we quickly asleep after the long journey.

Saturday morning began with one of Pete Aylott’s famous cooked breakfasts and we split into two groups for the different activities. The first group went over to Glasbury on Wye to do canoeing on the Wye whilst the other did riding. Wearing wet suits we carried out canoes down to the water and played lots of games on the river including canoe rugby. The water levels were pretty low so we couldn’t go as far as we had hoped up some of the tributaries.

After lunch we travelled a few miles up to the Llangorse Activity Centre where we were able to do pony trekking and swapped with the other group. My horse was called Harry and seemed more interested in the grass than trotting! We did some training in the ring and then took the horses (or rather the horse took us) for an hour and a half trek over the fields. Will and Sam did some climbing and caving at the same centre and also had a great time.
